The Chain of Divine Scriptures
Islam recognizes a unified continuity of divine communication throughout human history, honoring original revelations including the Scrolls of Abraham, the Torah of Moses, the Psalms of David, and the Gospel of Jesus. The Qur’an stands as the final, universally preserved culmination of divine revelation.
Divine revelation is the sacred mechanism through which الله communicates His will, guidance, and wisdom to humanity. Across epochs, as cultures evolved and strayed from the truth, divine scriptures were bestowed upon chosen messengers to restore spiritual clarity and establish justice.
The Chain of Revealed Books
Islam acknowledges the divine origin of numerous scriptures revealed throughout sacred history. Among the most prominent recognized in the Quran are:
- Early revelations granted to Patriarch Abraham, emphasizing pure monotheism, righteous deeds, and spiritual reflection.
- The foundational law revealed to Moses on Mount Sinai, containing detailed legal, moral, and spiritual guidance for the Children of Israel.
- The lyrical hymns of praise, repentance, and divine majesty bestowed upon King David.
- The message of spiritual renewal, divine love, and moral reform revealed to Jesus, the son of Mary, confirming the core message of the Torah.
- The concluding, universal revelation sent to Prophet مُحَمَّد, preserved verbatim to serve as a perpetual guide for all humanity until the end of time.
The Finality and Inviolability of the Quran
While earlier scriptures were revealed to specific nations for specific historical eras, the Quran was revealed as a universal criterion. God Himself undertook the preservation of the Quranic text from human alteration, as declared in Surah Al-Hijr:
“Indeed, it is We who sent down the Quran and indeed, We will be its guardian.” (Surah Al-Hijr, verse nine)
For over fourteen centuries, the Quran has remained completely unaltered in its original Arabic wording, memorized cover-to-cover by millions of believers in every generation.
The Universal Themes Across All Scriptures
Despite differing in secondary ritual regulations, all divine books share a consistent theological essence: the oneness of God, the sacredness of human life, the defense of the vulnerable, the obligation of honesty, and the certainty of the afterlife. As the Quran declares in Surah Ash-Shura:
“He has ordained for you of religion what He enjoined upon Noah and that which We have revealed to you, and what We enjoined upon Abraham and Moses and Jesus – to establish the religion and not be divided therein.” (Surah Ash-Shura, verse thirteen)
Conclusion
Honoring all divine revelations fosters a profound sense of unity among believers in monotheism. The Quran stands as the crowning jewel in this spiritual lineage, inviting all people to return to the pure worship of their Creator.
